I think it's great that technology is being used to spark interest in classic literature.
Imagine the traffic that would ensue if Kindle provided an ereader app for laptops or netbooks. They may not sell as much hardware, but perhaps they would sell more ebooks.
After doing a quick google search, I stumbled upon some software from Sony. Sony has released eBook Library Software for PCs and Macs.
With it, you can:
► Shop thousands of eBook titles including New York Times Bestsellers.
► Take your library with you by transferring to your Sony Reader.
► Read eBooks on your PC or Mac with adjustable text and two-page
view.
► Search inside your collection of eBooks.
► Borrow books from your library (library card required).
I'll likely download this app and give it a try. While the Sony library has purchaseable text, there is also a vast number of public domain titles that you can download for free via Google books, which uses the Open EPUB format.
The following article from Computer World discusses how technology and the Internet influences readership on classic books.
