Moe : Frequently Asked Questions
  • Can he see through all of that hair?
Yes, but his vision is limited, for his hair hangs in his face. His primary sense is smell, then sound, and finally, sight.

  • How much does he weigh?
We went to the vet on 01/08/20003 and he weighed 109 lbs.

  • How much will he eventually weigh?
    Between 140 and 160 lbs.

  • What's his favorite toy?
    A 3" white donut rawhide.

  • How much does he eat a day?
Normally, he eats a medium size bowl of Diamond dog food. Currently we mix puppy chow and adult chow. During his growing spurts, he can easily eat two or three bowls.

  • Is he easy to keep clean?
If you adjhere to a daily routine, it is easy to keep him clean. There are products that let you keep him smelling clean in the dead of winter without having him getting wet.

  • Does he smell?
Yes, from time to time. He has his own unique odor during the damp/rainy seasons, but there are aerosol-based products to help us overcome this issue.

  • Does he get along with children?
Yes, he is very good with children. He'll let children that mean no harm to him to approach him without his master even letting the child into his yard to play with him. He will protect this child from other people/animals if he thinks they will hurt his little friend.

  • What is the most-asked question people ask when you take him for a walk?
Can I pet him? Does he have eyes? Is he nice?

  • Is he registered?
Yes, he is AKC registered. We also signed a contract to ensure his safety if anthing should happen to us.

  • What is Moe's favorite food?
    Freeze pops, steak, and venison.

  • How much exercise is required?
Mo is walked twice a day. His time spent walking each day ranges from 1 1/2 hours to 3 hours per day. He also is allowed 2 to 6 hours a day to play in his fenced in yard. A very long walk (2-3 hours) involving exensive human exposure is also required at least once a week. Training is also reinforced during his dailymorning walks.

  • Where did you get him?
  • in Iowa. Karl (Owner of Ari's Kennel) is a very nice person who truely loves animals. His farm is a joy to visit.

  • Is he friendly?
Usually, as long as he's on a leash outside his home area. If you are part of his flock on his home turf, you'll be greeted with exuberant barks and possibly a friendly nudge. If you are a stranger and in his area, he will evaulate you and decide on his own if you can pass or not.

  • Does he get along with dogs and other animals? You can take him anywhere and he'll be nice to others until he is provoked. You can even bring other animals into his area and add it to his flock to protect.

  • What is his Breed?
    Komondor
Kommondors Rule!

MoHowever,
before you rush out and get one, consider this advice:

If you are a person who requires instant unquestioned obedience to commands from your dog, do not get a Komondor.

If you are a person who does not have a generous amount
of time to spend with your
dog, do not get a Komondor.

If you are a person who lives
in cramped quarters or has neighbors who would object to a dog barking, do not get a Komondor.

If you are a person who has expensive, fragile, irreplaceable possessions, do not buy a Komondor.

Koms are not for everyone, but if you can work around these issues they are worth the effort!
